Our neighborhoods begin to open back up, power is in the process of being restored, and we take the steps to regain some semblance of normalcy. Losing a home is difficult. There is an immediate loss of feeling safe and secure. In my experience, this feeling is best explained by the sensation that I get after a big earthquake. That nothing is solid. That anything could suddenly happen… and that THING is scary and unpredictable. The absence of security is replaced by an unsettling layer of the unknown. I have found that secure feeling returns when engaging in activities that bring back the KNOWN. The things that we KNOW are good for us- healthy food (no/low sugar), sleep and rest (keep energy high and combat fatigue- mental and physical), lots of movement (on your own or with us), time and communication with friends and family: all of these bring KNOWN results. Calm, restoration, grounding, healing, and positive mental attitude. Let’s take this one day at a time, together.
