This past weekend, Dr Jo and Dr Deb gathered with about 35 other physicians to take their CrossFit Level 1 seminar- a special version that hosts medical doctors only as a way to get the CrossFit message into the front lines of the industry.
Founder and owner, Greg Glassman introduced CrossFit as THE training method for Navy SEALS, fire fighters, and law enforcement officers- and then “backfilled with grandmothers.” Meaning- once the CrossFit was method was PROVEN by developing “tip of the spear” fitness for those whose very lives depend on their physical readiness… then it would be obvious to anyone that the very same method can and should be followed by ANYONE and EVERYONE who wanted to be as fit as they could possibly be. And then along came everyone else!
And then there is the greater medical community at large. If you have been paying attention to ever-increasing obesity rates, if you even partially understand the extent of the chronic disease crisis, if you are just slightly aware of the extent to which Big Pharma, The Soda Industry, and lobbyist groups have gripped the reins of the supposed health care industry- then you have some comprehension of what Greg refers to as “The Mess.” And while one might not be very optimistic that The Mess can ever be fixed (Greg isn’t)… there are still things that CAN and SHOULD be done for those out there looking for answers. Those have are beginning to navigate a path and seeking a medical advisory who can give them straight answers. Who can give them advice that is focused on treating the root causes of disease and not the symptoms. And this is why the MD Level 1 is focused directly at medical doctors. At the tip of the spear.
The docs are the individuals who hold the power to make decisions that CAN and SHOULD change the course of the health industry. And so this past weekend, soon-to-be-Kool-Aide-Drinking-Physicians, gathered to learn the prescription of constantly varied, functional movement, executed at high intensity. To get behind the method that is responsible for an increase in work capacity across broad time and modal domains. Because if the doctors “get it”… then they possess the unique power to make changes in the industry that currently is not making a dent in the The Mess. Does Your Doctor Even CrossFit?!
