If you train with us at CrossFit Malibu to become good at CrossFit… you are in the right place! If you train here to be strong and fit for longevity, overall heath and happiness then you are among friends. And if you train here to be generally physical prepared for any physical contingency- for anything that life (or your friends) throw at you– then you are really in for a treat (and results!) Here is an example… meet Dusty:
Veteran CrossFit Malibuites, Dusty and his wife Cecily, trained with the CrossFit Malibu Triathlon team to prepare for racing the Point Dume Sprint Triathlon back in December 2017. This was a goal for both of them and they did great training with the group. Of particular note is that at the beginning of the program, I think it is fair to say that Dusty didn’t really know how to swim and had rarely ever entered the Pacific Ocean despite living in Malibu for about a decade. He was ready to use the triathlon and tarring program as a way to learn valuable life skill that would open up experiences for him in the future. And WOW did he succeed (so did she by the way)! Here are some excerpts from his experience racing the Wildflower Off Road Sprint Triathlon from this past weekend (with fellow CFMer Scott, and Scott’s wife Claire.
“The race consisted of a 500m lake swim followed by a challenging 10 mile mountain bike course and ended with a 2 mile trail run. The mountain bike course proved to be tough, with lots of loose dirt and some steep climbs forcing me to push my bike uphill on several occasions (felt like a sled push!) I finished the swim in a personal record time of 11:49, completed the bike in 1:01, and covered the trail run at a snail’s pace of 18:57 while fighting off quad cramps! (Note: times include transitions) I prepared for this race with 90% CrossFit and 10% sport specific, hitting a handful of swims and two trail rides on my bike prior to the event. Overall I felt that my level of functional fitness prepared me well for this event. I’ve always pursued CrossFit as a means of unlocking other adventures and this is a great example of that!
