Friday 160805 Double Couplets

Last week I encouraged you to look towards signing up for a local CrossFit Competition and today I am going to up the ante just a bit. You remember the days of the local 5k run, right? A community would host a “fun-run” to raise money for a charity or organize a Turkey Trot as a way to get families together to exercise. Those runs still exist but have been largely overshadowed by obstacle course races, triathlons and marathons. In the hey-day of the jogging movement we could sign up for a 5 or 10km race within an hours drive of their home every single weekend. We collected Hanes beefy-t shirts and bib numbers (the “everyone gets a finishers medal” thing is a phenomenon of the 21st century) and saw many of the same cast of characters at each event in southern California.

These days the community CrossFit event is slowly gaining an inroads and most weekends one can seek out and compete in a “functional fitness” event. With the popularity of the Reebok CrossFit Games there are more and more to choose from. And while many of them are focused on the highest level CrossFitters including monetary prizes purses- more and more are engaging the Average Joe and Jane. And that’s where WE come in.

The Festivus Games (for WOD details CLICK HERE) is focused on the everyday CrossFitter- those of us who scale weight and modify movements. We athletes who like to participate in the CrossFit Games Open typically do so because it holds us accountable for range of motion and a weekly competitive effort.. as well as the fun of an organized event that is simply a great way to spend time. WE are the target audience of such an event and guess what?!… Joe up at CrossFit Oxnard is hosting this exact event on October 15th. It is a same-gender partner event.

So let’s pair up, drive to CrossFit Oxnard and have a fun day of LOCAL competition. Here is the description of how to decide what group you qualify for!

Friday- Double Couplets at 7 and 9am, 3 and 5pm

Three rounds for time of:
15 DB thrusters (40/25#)
400m run
-rest exactly 5 minutes-
Three rounds for time of:
20 push ups
25 KB swings (USA, 24/18kg)
Post time for each couplet to chalkboard
