There is nothing like jump training for explosive power in body weight exercise. Single, maximal efforts require full-out force production, necessitate attention and focus to land safely, and keep the athlete mentally alert with each repetition- especially when there is a consequence to missing a rep.
Below, Peter gets in some single leg take offs with two leg landings- the standard running long jump- but with a HUGE, sandy landing pit. Landing in the sand allows him to concentrate fully on the jump with not much concern for safety in the landing… after all, the sand is a great place to come to a stop with a relatively low consequence for injury.
Today’s jumps also require close to 100% effort-as you are challenged to jump higher than usual for a met-con workout. Today there IS a consequence for missing a jump- a rather BIG consequence- so pay attention! Don’t don’t rush them… particularly with tired legs from dumbbell loaded “burpees.”
