Thursday 160421 “Helen”

Yesterday- armed with information, a few minutes of practice, and a day-long single-subject case/control research study- my life was changed forever.

Thanks Darryl, for teaching me how to tie my shoes so that they do not come untied.

You might have already seen the Ted Talks video in which a rocket-scientist type guy lets the entire world know, once and for all, that we have been tie our shoes all wrong. That we have all been wasting our time tying our shoe laces over and over again for endless hours upon hours, and if we just learned to do it “right” the first time- we would have been set from the very beginning. Well, since I have Darryl, I didn’t need to watch the video, I just let him show me how to do it.

Relatively simple- just two critical variations on the standard overhand knot and the loop. But since I, like you, have been doing this the same way for since my first pair of dark blue Van Dorens… it would take some determination to relearn this and make it a habit. But I am going to spend that extra 20 seconds (10/shoe) in the morning and save much more than that all day. Now if you want to learn- you can watch this... or do like I did, just have Darryl teach you.

I wonder what ELSE I have been doing “wrong” since I learned it… and how ELSE could my live be different in other ways if I dedicated just 20 seconds per day to breaking an old habit or learning something new!?

Both shoes tied at 8:05am, left with “new method” and right with “traditional”- this is at 10:15am. New method wins. Tied both again with new method- lasted all day through multiple run warm ups, running specialty class and much more! Testing continues.
