Mammoth Lakes and The John Muir Trail
with Dr Jo, Clara, Joseph, and Kolby
This past week we walked into wilderness for four days with just what we had on our backs. Over the next four days we were going to walk just about 40 miles and gain and lose about 15,000 feet in elevation, with our highest elevation being about 12,000 feet and as low as 7,000 feet.
The only other time I had been backpacking was in the Grand Canyon when I was 10 years old and I don’t really remember any of it along with it being about half the time and half the distance. So I wasn’t really sure what to expect as far as physical/mental challenge of the trip. With packs full each of our 4 bags were somewhere between 40 and 50 pounds, we headed off to our first 12,000 foot pass to get into the Pacific Coast Trail.
The video below is our recap of our 4 days of exploring and playing in the wilderness. The BEST training I could have asked for is CrossFit, no extra hiking, no extra rucking, nothing. CrossFit and its base principle of General Physical Preparedness did just that.
Enjoy the video of our adventure! Go Outside And Play!
