Yesterday we talked a little bit about how fun it is to go out to a new CrossFit box when traveling to different destinations… but that is definitely not the only way to go about it when on the road. In fact, a great way to get outside and experience a new area is to go for a run. Explore the side streets, find some parks, trails or running paths, or even running down the city streets is a great way to be a tourist. Using apps like MapMyRun makes it really easy to figure out how far you’ve gone- but also using Apple maps makes it really easy to not really, truly get lost. You might use Google Earth to search for a patch of green, a high school running track or a loop that will bring you right back to where you started without having to back track. This afternoon- while out pushing the twins in a stroller I keep my eyes out for someplace to train… with the closest CrossFit gym about 30 minutes away, I know I wouldn’t have time to make it there. On the walk, I found this small playground behind the town community center. I returned to this spot later in the afternoon and put together a WOD that included some double handed monkey bar laps, air squats and short sprints. Have you put together a WOD while traveling out of town in a local playground or something similar? Share your experience in comments!
