Class Description

CrossFit Group Class

Each CrossFit WOD (workout of the day) is done in a 60 minute group class setting.  Each hour long class contains the basic format of:  a coach-led warm up, some skill development and technique training and practice, and then a high intensity set of work that is often done for time or for maximum effort.  The movements, format, focus and purpose of this WOD are constantly varied; meaning that each day you come in a get something new and different.  Check this blog each night to see the following days’ WOD.

Strength Class

Two days a week we offer a dedicated strength class where the focus is to develop foundational strength and power as well as practice in the mechanics of these movements.  Unlike the daily WOD, strength class has a specific target each month.  We begin the month testing out current ability and fitness level and then post-test at the end of the month to measure progress.  Strength class are open to all members of CrossFit Malibu.

Mobility Class

Begins with dynamic warm up and a very short “Compact WOD” intended to get the body warm and ready for 40 minutes of targeted mobility work. The focus for each session will vary.

Benchmark or Make-up WOD

Occasionally the early Saturday class will be a CrossFit Benchmark- like a “Girl or Hero WOD” or some other type of session intended to be a test against individuals’ previous PRs. A Make-Up WOD is when athletes can choose a WOD from the previous week’s Monday-Friday programming- it is a coach-led session. The type of class to be held is announced on Friday night’s blogpost.

Saturday BIG WOD

The Saturday 9:30am class is a change of pace from the weekly WODs.  Most Saturdays this training session is geared towards teamwork and group participation.  The class is typically much larger than weekly classes as people like to team up to complete the challenges of Saturday WODs together.  We have full use of the Hut and the Yard, so WODs become a bit more experimental. Usually these classes go a bit longer than an hour.  You do not need to come with a partner- we pair up in different ways each week.

kids CLASS

CrossFit Kids is a program created for and geared towards children.  The focus is on fun and movement.  We teach general athletic skill development and body awareness in a game-like setting.  Our kids develop real fitness and conditioning and always leave wanting to come back for more.  We offer CrossFit Kids classes on weekday afternoons and midday over summer vacation.  These sessions run in 6 week cycles in age groupings of 7-9 and 10-12 years old.  We also hold specific teenage classes as well.  Contact  us for details current classes now in session.
