Wednesday 120912 Mini-Eva (ha!)

Watch this power clean.  What do you think?  Let’s hear some comments!

Sure, it is a good amount of weight for a young high school kid to clean…. what do you think about his mechanics?    Is that going to be sustainable in the long run?  Where does he go from there?  MORE weight?  I am sure HE thinks that is what should happen next.  For sure his friends will goad him into putting more weight on the bar.  One would have to suspect that his coach wouldn’t disagree.  But to what end?

We are in it for the long haul; regardless of age, ability, previous experience.  Yes, we want you to develop strength and power- and to do so quickly isn’t necessarily a bad thing, BUT when mechanics are sacrificed for short term gain… it is not a sustainable way to progress.

Cole receives a power clean in a sound mechanical position.  He’s ready for more!

Now watch this and compare to the first video.  This is Cole from the hang.

Wednesday’s WOD: 7, 9, 10am and again at 5pm.  Strength class at 6pm.

  1. cole is a stud. so unless you are talking about improving his elbow position he looks good to go. bigger question is where is your typo on this post…2 poods or 30 times 3 rounds? you still on east coast time?

  2. Palo Verdes Guy: too much arms; didn’t get under it so caught it too far out in front of him; pouncing and and yanking the bar off the floor like that is begging for injury, a back is not something you want to surprise. Cole’s second one in particular was textbook.

  3. Cole, that’s awesome! Catching a clean in rack position like that still eludes me…I’ve been going down in weight to try to work on it, but something still isn’t clicking.
